A large number of dead birds, including seagulls, cormorants and up to 30 swans, was found at a lake on the Danish island of Lolland on Tuesday.
The animals were found at a body of water near the town of Maribo, reports Folketidende.dk.

The cause of death of the birds is currently unknown, but Lahrmann said that avian influenza was a possible reason.
A veterinary unit will analyse the dead animals in order to determine a cause of death, a process likely to take ?a few days,? she said.

A bunch of dead swans in Maribo
March 28 2018
The fire service and the environmental watch have collected about 30 dead swans.
On Tuesday afternoon, a citizen alarmed the municipality of Lolland, announcing that there were dead swans at Maribo S?nders?. The citizen also called the Veterinary Unit under the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, which came to the site and secured a dead swan, which is now being investigated.
But there were many more dead swans, so the Lolland-Falster Fire Department was called and came to the place with two small boats. And over three hours on Tuesday afternoon they have collected about 30 dead swans as well as some cloves and gulls.
"Some have died long for winter injuries, so it's mostly the big bunch of swans that worry," says environmental guard Dorthe Prit Lahrmann.
She tells you that you do not yet know the cause of death, but that it may be bird flu.
- When there is such a big bunch at one time, there is a suspicion that is reported. We will know when the studies are completed. It typically takes a few days, she notes.
The veterinary unit has announced that it does not need to investigate more of the dead birds so that they are collected in closed containers to be sent for destruction.
- Of course, they should not be there by the lake. And if they are infected with something, there is also a reason to get them removed as quickly as possible, "explains Dorthe Prit Lahrmann.
