AFFECTED POPULATION DESCRIPTION
On 21 December 2022 clinical suspicion was reported to the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration. the effected population is a poultry holding consisting of app. 36000 turkeys. On the 22 December 2022 highly pathogenic avian influenza sup. H5N1 was confirmed by the national reference laboratory. A 3 km protection zone and a 10 km surveillance zone were established. The culling of the susceptible birds are planned to take place on 22 December 2022. Carcasses wil be disposed of by rendering.

36,000 turkeys must be killed after bird flu was found
There have so far been nine outbreaks in Danish poultry flocks. The latest outbreak was on a farm that raises broiler turkeys.

Once again, a flock of turkeys is affected by the highly contagious disease bird flu. The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration and the National Emergency Management Agency are in the process of euthanizing the 36,000 animals in the herd.

A good 36,000 turkeys on a farm at Stokkemarke in Lolland must be killed after the authorities have found the contagious bird flu type H5N1 among the animals.

- Today we start killing the animals. We use gas and euthanize for the sake of animal welfare. At the same time, we reduce the risk of the spread of infection, says head of veterinary medicine at the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration Mette Kirkeskov Sie in a press release from the agency.

She expects the euthanasia task to be completed on Friday, December 23rd.
