Panama, Oct 15 (Prensa Latina)

More than 1,400 cases of dengue fever have been treated in Panama, and this makes people to fear about the presence of an epidemic, despite the campaign to eradicate vectors, authorities said here Sunday.

Sources of the Panamanian Public Health Ministry said the most vulnerable areas are the district of San Miguelito, Panama Oeste and the province of Chiriqui.

The greatest concentration is in San Miguelito (591) and the metropolitan region (432).

Medical sources alerted on the increase of cases by infection and increase of places where transmitter mosquito Aedes Aegypti can be in this capital.

According to official data, nearly 25,000 Panamanians have been affected with dengue fever since 1993.
