In 2023, 236 cases of Dengue were confirmed in Italy, of which 36 were autoctonous

Approximately half of the world's population is currently at risk of Dengue, with an estimated number of infections between 100 and 400 million per year. The risk concerns all populations in the areas where mosquitoes vectoring the virus are present and the WHO aims to tackle emerging arboviruses, with epidemic potential, by monitoring the risk.

In the 2023 Report of Epicentro (Istituto Superiore di Sanità), in Italy, 236 cases of Dengue were confirmed, of which 36 were indigenous (as of 27 September 2023).

The indigenous infections (locally) would have occurred on three different occasions, not connected to each other. The first outbreak in the province of Lodi with 25 confirmed cases, another in the province of Latina with 2 infections and a third in the province of Rome where 9 cases were identified with exposures in different parts of the city which required investigations, which are still ongoing , to verify any epidemiological links. All patients whose health conditions are known are recovered or improving.

Consulting the latest data from the Istituto Superiore di Sanità available online, the dashboard also shows 200 cases of Dengue imported from other countries. The autochthonous transmission of the virus, albeit in the presence of a limited number of cases, is evolving.

Meanwhile, as reported in the information released by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità itself, disinfestation activities against mosquitoes continue and all the preventive measures envisaged to protect transplants and transfusions have been activated.

Italy: 249 dengue cases reported since January 1
Rome, Oct 5 (Prensa Latina) From January 1, 2023, to date, 249 cases of dengue have been confirmed in Italy, including 42 local infections and 207 people infected abroad.
October 5, 2023 12:15

According to the Superior Institute of Health (ISS), among regions with most cases reported is Lombardy (83), followed by Lazio (54) and Emilia Romagna (35).

The ISS specialists stated autochthonous dengue transmission, although still with limited number of cases, is spreading with unrelated transmission episodes, particularly in Lodi, Latina and Rome provinces...

The number of infected people in Castiglione rises to 29

The cases of Dengue in Castiglione have risen to 29, 28 native and one imported in recent days, which prompted the ATS to ask the Municipality of Bassa led by Tino Pesatori for further remediation action on Thursday. Furthermore, in recent days the ATS has also reported to the Municipality of Massalengo a case, currently suspected of Dengue. This is a woman who was hospitalized in Pavia hospital.

Dengue in Rome and Lazio, indigenous cases increase

Locally transmitted dengue cases are increasing in Rome, Lazio and the rest of Italy. There are 58 (increasing compared to the 49 notified last week) referring to four unconnected transmission episodes in the province of Lodi (30 confirmed cases), in the province of Latina (2 cases) and in the province of Rome (25 cases with exposures in different parts of the metropolitan city of Rome and 1 case in Anzio, for which investigations are underway to verify any epidemiological links). All cases, whose outcome is known, have recovered or are improving.

Since the beginning of the year, 273 cases of Dengue imported from other countries have also been reported, also an increase compared to the 212 in the previous survey. This is what emerges from the Dengue fever bulletin updated on 16 October by the Higher Institute of Health (ISS).

The indigenous transmission of the virus, albeit in the presence of a limited number of cases, is evolving, highlights the ISS. Disinfestation activities against mosquitoes continue and, in the areas where local transmission has occurred, all the preventive measures required to protect transplants and transfusions have been activated.

The ISS recommends 'protecting yourself from mosquito bites during the hours of maximum density and avoiding all situations that may favor their development'.

Endemic cases of dengue fever increase to 66 in Italy
Rome, Oct 25 (Prensa Latina) The number of autochthonous cases of dengue fever in Italy has risen to 66, an increase from the 58 recorded in the previous week's report, the Higher Institute of Health (ISS) said today in its latest report.
October 25, 2023 14:20

According to the report published Wednesday by the ISS, four more cases were detected in the province of Lodi, in the northern region of Lombardy, where 36 autochthonous infections have already been recorded this year, making it the locality with the most complex situation.

Four others were located in the central region of Lazio, two of them in the province of Latina and the same number in the province of Rome, where 27 cases of the disease have been reported in different parts of the metropolitan city, in addition to one case in the coastal city of Anzio.

Marino Faccini, director of the Department of Hygiene and Health Prevention of Milan, referred in statements to the media to the globalization of diseases as a consequence of climate change, and pointed out that with dengue, “we must be aware that we have a tropical infection at home”...

The cases of autochthonous or locally transmitted Dengue fever in Italy have risen to 72, an increase compared to the 68 reported last week. They refer to four unconnected transmission episodes in the province of Lodi (37 confirmed cases), in the province of Latina (2 cases) and in the province of Rome (32 cases with exposures in different parts of the metropolitan city of Rome and 1 case in Anzio, for which investigations are underway to verify any epidemiological links). All cases, whose outcome is known, have recovered or are improving.

Since the beginning of the year, 234 cases of Dengue imported from other countries have also been reported, for a total of 306. This is what emerges from the Dengue fever bulletin updated by the Higher Institute of Health (ISS).

Disinfestation activities against mosquitoes continue and, in the areas where local transmission has occurred - reports the ISS - all the preventive measures envisaged to protect transplants and transfusions have been activated. Individual and structural protection against mosquito bites remains indicated, always avoiding all those situations that could favor their development.
