North Darfur governor brokers truce between two warring tribes
August 14, 2013 (KHARTOUM) ? The governor of Sudan?s North Darfur state Osman Mohamed Youssef Kibir announced that the conflicting Ma?alia and Rezeigat tribes have reached an agreement to stop violent attacks following intensive meetings he held with some groups affiliated with the two tribes.
More than 100 people were killed in violent clashes on Saturday between the two Arab tribes over land and cattle in Sudan?s East Darfur state.
Kibir said that the two sides have agreed to stop violent attacks in North Darfur state in areas extending from Al-liait in the east to Gibal Adoula in the west, and from Um Saaona in the south to Tulu in the north.

Death toll of Ma'alia-Rizeigat clashes in East Darfur reaches 305

A total of 209 people were killed and 305 were wounded in clashes between the Rizeigat and Ma'alia tribes in East Darfur, according to the latest estimates on Wednesday. Meanwhile, East Darfur Governor Abdul Hamid Musa Kasha, announced the ?state is not in control of the situation nor is it able to disperse the fighting.?
Ahmed Mohamed Adud, the East Darfur secretary-general, told Radio Dabanga on Wednesday that that only on Monday, 35 Rizeigat were killed and another 82 were wounded, bringing the total casualty toll to 149 deaths and 185 injuries.
Sheikh Murdis Juma, Chairman of the Shura (heads of communities) Council of the Ma'alia, said that 60 Ma'alia tribesmen were killed so far and 120 were wounded.

Ed Daein ? Battles between the Rizeigat and Ma'alia tribes in East Darfur continued on Saturday and Sunday, rising the total casualty toll to 302 thus far. Meanwhile, the Shura Council (heads of communities) of the Ma'alia tribe is accusing the Rizeigat of "ethnic cleansing and forced deportation."
Ahmed Mohamed Adud, East Darfur secretary-general, told Radio Dabanga that 106 members of the Rizegat tribe were killed and 111 were injured as of Sunday evening. He said Khartoum sent planes to transport the wounded from both tribes: the Rizeigat were transferred from Ed Daein to Nyala, South Darfur, and the Ma'alia from the nearby El Taweisha to the North Darfur localities of Klaimendo and El Fasher.
Responding to rumours that a doctor was slaughtered in Nyala hospital on Sunday, Adub confirmed the killing but denied he was a doctor. "The Rizeigat killed a 'visitor' of the Gimr tribe who was taking photos of the dead and injured at the hospital."

Bloody tribal clashes leave ?hundreds dead, many wounded? in East Darfur

Violent clashes that have erupted between the Riezegat and Ma?alia tribes in East Darfur on Saturday and Sunday have reportedly left ?hundreds dead and many wounded? on both sides.
Tensions between the tribes began to rise when Ma'alia members allegedly stole several cattle belonging to the Riezegat, and when a Ma'alia merchant, Hashin Houmeida, nicknamed Al Libi, was allegedly killed by Riezegat tribesmen.
These events prompted a high-level security delegation, as well as Sudanese army troops, to be despatched to state capital Ed Daein on Thursday. The combat zones included Kilikil Abu Salam on Saturday, spreading to Al Muhalgarat, Dar Es Salam, Al Sahab, Mijelid and Angabo on Sunday.

El Fasher, 14 August 2013 ? The Joint Special Representative and head of the African Union - United Nations Mission in Darfur, Mr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, expresses his deep concern over the high number of casualties as a result of clashes between the Rezeigat and Ma?alia in and around El Daein and Adila, East Darfur.
?The violence must stop for the sake of everyone caught in this terrible ordeal. Fighting is not the answer and I urge all parties to resolve their differences through dialogue,? said Mr. Chambas, who today is in meetings over the situation with the Chairperson of the Darfur Regional Authority, Dr. Eltijani Seisi.
