The finding of dead swans in the pond Na hrázi in Kojetín in the Přerov region alerted the regional veterinary administration. Laboratory tests on dead pieces this week confirmed bird flu - an infection with the highly pathogenic H5N1 virus. In recent days, the Kojetín pond Na hrázi has become a sought-after refuge for swans, which ornithologists have counted around eighty in one place.

"The occurrence of the highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu virus has been confirmed in dead swans in the Kojetín region. The danger is that if there are poultry farms nearby, extensive losses can occur, "said Aleš Zatloukal from the Regional Veterinary Administration in Olomouc.

According to Jiří Šafránek from the Moravian Ornithological Association in Přerov, about eighty swans were observed at the Na hrázi watercourse in Kojetín, which is relatively rare.

"The first occurrence of bird flu was recorded in swans in Záhlinice. Because the local pond was drained, the swans moved to Kojetín, and so the disease was apparently introduced, "he stated.

The Municipal Office in Hulín has already informed about the occurrence of the bird flu virus in the locality of Záhlinické rybníky - specifically the H5N1 subtype.

The bird flu, which was confirmed last week by laboratory tests on two dead swans in the Na hrázi pond in Kojetín, mows other individuals. Representatives of the local organization of the Czech Fishermen's Association in Tovačov have already transported a total of nine dead swans to the rendering plant. Fishermen fear that even this number will not be final - other feathers are showing signs of apathy. The Regional Veterinary Administration is not planning any special measures in connection with the death - these are wild birds...
