(Reuters) - A Prague hospital is testing a 56-year-old Czech man with symptoms of the Ebola virus, a hospital spokesman said on Thursday.

The spokesman said the man, who had recently traveled in Liberia, was in isolation at Bulovka hospital in the Czech capital and that tests had been carried out and sent to a laboratory in Berlin. Results should be known on Friday, he said.

Incubation period is 21 days, the man left Liberia 22 days ago.

Man with suspected Ebola virus hospitalized in Prague

Prague, Oct 9 (ČTK) ? The Czech Republic registers its first case of suspected Ebola virus disease of a Czech man, born in 1958, who returned from Liberia 22 days ago, chief sanitary officer Vladim?r Valenta told ČTK today.

The man, who has fever but no other Ebola symptoms, was preventively taken to Prague's Na Bulovce hospital, Valenta added.

Valenta stressed that it was a mere suspicion of the disease.

"As the only symptom has been fever so far, we hope that it might be another disease, for instance, malaria," he told ČTK.

"At present all people whom he has met since he returned home are being searched for," he added.

He left Liberia 22 days ago but when did his symptoms start?

Also, they hope he has malaria? I think there are many pyrogenic conditions that would be preferable to Malaria!

(Reuters) - Tests showed that a Czech man hospitalized with symptoms of Ebola does not have the virus, Czech media reported on Friday.

The 56-year-old businessman who had recently traveled in Liberia was put in isolation at a Prague hospital on Thursday. Tests were conducted and sent to a laboratory in Berlin.

Test results came up negative for Ebola, the website of newspaper Mlada Fronta Dnes reported on Friday, citing the country's top hygiene official Vladimir Valenta, who said officials were examining the patient for malaria.


Man has fever but no other Ebola symptoms

Prague, Oct. 10 (ČTK) ? The Czech man hospitalized in Prague with suspected Ebola virus since Thursday does not suffer from this fatal disease, as a test carried out by a laboratory in Berlin has refuted the suspicion, Czech Vaccination Society head Roman Prymula told ČTK today.

The patient is a Czech businessman, born in 1958, who returned from Monrovia in Liberia three weeks ago. He has had fever but no other Ebola symptoms. He may suffer from malaria or Dengue fever.

The man started to feel health troubles 17 days after his return from Africa.
In mid-September, sanitary officers and health care personnel checked an Ebola suspicion in the case of a young man from Tanzania studying at the university in Pardubice, east Bohemia. He had fever after returning from Congo where he visited his girlfriend. However, the Ebola infection was soon ruled out.
