PUTRAJAYA - Another death due to influenza virus A (H1N1) recorded in the country, involving a 42-year-old male lawyer from Johor Bahru on Tuesday.
Director General of Health Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said the men involved died during treatment at a private hospital in Johor Bahru.
He said the latest death is the first of this year, bringing the total number of victims who died from the virus rose to 78 since the outbreak was detected last year.
He has also had risk factors for obesity complications including acute renal failure and infection.
"His condition is treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) the hospital is becoming more acute and he died yesterday of pneumonia caused by H1N1 is' Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome," he told media after the outbreak of H1N1 at the technical meeting here yesterday.
. Dr Ismail said the two deaths involving a mother and her new child in the Malacca Hospital, 31 March and 2 April last, not due to H1N1 virus infection.
"Two (which was previously reported as a result of H1N1 infection) of the three deaths this year are not directly related to H1N1, but the latest (yesterday) in connection with the H1N1," he said.
