Abstract

High fatality rates and multiple cases of transmission of avian H5N1 influenza viruses to humans illustrate the urgent need for an efficacious, cross-protective vaccine against H5N1 strains.

Extensive genetic characterization of H5N1 strains has elucidated the natural evolutionary relationship of these strains, linking groups known as ?clades? to a common ancestor.

Although the clades and subclades probably differ sufficiently in their antigenic structure to warrant the preparation of different vaccines, there is some evidence that cross reactive immunity can be afforded.

We aimed to assess the immunogenicity of a clade 1 H5N1 (NIBRG-14) whole virus aluminum phosphate adjuvanted vaccine and determine whether it can induce cross-reactive immunity against antigenically drifted clade 2 H5N1 strains of both reverse genetics derived and wild type isolated origin.

A total of 88 (44 adult and 44 elderly) subjects were studied, who received one dose (6 micrograms) of the vaccine.

As judged by US and European licensing criteria based on hemagglutination inhibition, the subjects developed cross-reactive immunity against all studied H5N1 strains belonging to a different clade than the strain utilized to produce the vaccine.

Our findings highlight the importance of stockpiling, since cross immune reactions induced by prepandemic vaccines will likely reduce morbidity and mortality in case of a pandemic.

many different vaccines now, someone compare the prices !

Stockpiling som prepandemic vaccine should be done by each country,
the question is how much.

And companies, organizations, individuals might want to stockpile too

It' s an " old" vaccin ( dec 2005 ).

The important thing is that non-matched prepandemic vacc. still works better than without any, so this "conceptual strategy" can be inserted as an WHO guideline, and to starting stocking such vacc. in mass quantity, to be ready in case of an pandemic, instead of forcing triages onto the skin of others ...

I think the price would be unreacheable high for the most, if we wait the start of the pandemic to make the vaccines.

In the above case, you can forgot any individual vaccine buying other than as be an VIP preferential.

The importing pass primary through douanes and gov. purchasing, or it's deliberation acts.
An local creation and distribution pass through gov. orders also.

On markets such items would be unreacheable for the population, and fake vacc. on high prizes would proliferate ...

Speaking about an serious pandemic or worst, the how much question to stockpilling is obvious because it is pre-pandemic: for all.

If somebody doubts about the above deduction, start to think how much of yours family members (or you), parents, and ..., will not get any health shield for an novel deadly virus because they will be dumped as non strictly neccessary for the "nation go on", at the same time when every year the same estabs trumpeting the neccessity of vaccinations for seasonal flu ...

As seen or imagin, we all know what would happens, and who will be in the shielded group realy, when the "world we use to know" would start to broken apart like in an ancient plague ...
