EQUATORIAL GUINEA, FIRST AFRICAN COUNTRY THAT WILL USE REMDESIVIR DRUG FOR SERIOUS COVID-19 PATIENTS
The technical committee received more support from the chairman of the political committee for the fight and surveillance against the new coronavirus. H.E. Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue presented two new medicines on Friday at the People's Palace in Malabo. These are Remdesivir (1,000 doses) and Enoxaparin (5,000 doses), drugs which are added to the fight, which began on March 14, 2020, of the Equatorial Guinean government against the coronavirus pandemic. .
Equatorial Guinea now has Remdesivir, the first drug authorized for the treatment of Covid-19. This was announced by the chairman of the political committee for the fight against and response to the new coronavirus, HE Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, at a meeting held this Friday at the People's Palace in Malabo with health professionals who make up the technical committee.
In recent days, the new drug presented by the Vice President of the Republic, has aroused controversy in the global pharmaceutical market because of its price. Its injection costs 3,200 dollars (USA), equivalent to about two million CFA francs. However, the Government of Equatorial Guinea, in its desire to safeguard the health of its citizens, did not scrimp on the efforts to obtain it.
The Government of Malabo has acquired a total of 1,000 doses of Remdesivir and 5,000 doses of Enoxaparin, drugs which, according to the Deputy Minister of Health, Damaso Mitoha Ondo Ayecaba, will be used for patients who are admitted to the intensive care unit for coronavirus.
Equatorial Guinea being the first African country to include these drugs in its strategy to fight Covid-19, Damaso Mitoha Ondo Ayecaba described the action of Nguema Obiang Mango as heroic.
In addition to these drugs, Nguema Obiang Mangue also announced the arrival of 300,000 rapid tests which will be added to the PCRs already used to find out the situation of Covid-19 in the country.
