SAN JOSE - Costa Rica on Saturday confirmed its first H1N1 flu fatality, becoming the fourth nation to register a death from the outbreak after Mexico, the United States and Canada.
Health Minister Maria Luisa Avila said the victim was a 53-year-old man who died Saturday after spending more than a week in hospital in San Jose and who had been suffering from other health issues, including diabetes and a chronic pulmonary condition.
Eight other people in Costa Rica have contracted the A(H1N1) virus in addition to the man who died, Avila said
