KJCT(Grand Junction, Co.)-We have learned of the first pediatric death in Mesa County from the H1N1 virus. The Mesa County Health Department says the victim is a teenager and had severe underlying medical conditions. To protect the family's privacy, the department will not release additional details about the case. The Health Department extends sympathy to the family.
Flu activity in Mesa County appears to have peaked the last week of October when 20 cases were hospitalized within that week. Last week, two cases were hospitalized. To date, there have been 95 hospitalized cases of influenza in Mesa County.
Dr. Aduddell, Director of Mesa County Health Department, says, "Although we have seen a significant decrease in H1N1 activity, I continue to encourage those in the high priority groups receive the vaccine."
