A domestic animal was found to be infected with plague in Red Feather Lakes, and health officials are warning locals to take suitable precautions to prevent human infection.

Plague is a bacterial infection that can spread from infected animals to humans via flea bites, and is characterized by chills, headaches, swollen lymph nodes, high fever and extreme fatigue.

The county’s last human case of plague was in 2015...
