Judging from the flood level of previous years, it can be basically determined that this is a once-in-a-century flood.
Recently , many places in Guangdong Province have been affected by heavy rainfall for several days. The rainfall broke the historical record for the same period, and some areas along the main stream of the Beijiang River, the second largest water system in the Pearl River Basin, exceeded the warning line. At present, the flood peak in the Shaoguan area in northern Guangdong has passed, Yingde City in Qingyuan and many townships along the Lianjiang River are still soaked in the flood, and the cities downstream along the Beijiang River are in danger.
This is a flood caused by the unexpected "Dragon Boat Water". "Dragon Boat Water" refers to the continuous and large-scale precipitation that occurs before and after the Dragon Boat Festival in South my country during the annual Xiaoman to Summer Solstice. Hao Nan, head of Zhuoming Disaster Information Service Center, told "China Philanthropist": "Dragon boat water basically occurs every year, but it is very rare to record rainfall like this year. It can basically be determined that this is a once-in-a-century flood.”
According to the report of the Guangdong Provincial Emergency Management Department on June 21, due to the heavy rainfall, many places in Guangdong suffered from natural disasters such as rainstorms, floods and landslides. As of 11:00 on the 20th, a total of 479,600 people in Shaoguan, Heyuan, Meizhou, Zhaoqing, Qingyuan and other places were affected, the affected area of crops was 27.13 hectares, and 1,729 houses collapsed.
According to Ms. Cao, who lives in Yuzui Village, Yugang Town, Yingde City, the water suddenly rose. She recalled that this round of rainfall had been falling for nearly a month. "The water level suddenly rose on the 19th, and the water level receded a little in the morning of the 20th, so I didn't take it too seriously. But it rose again that afternoon. By 9 a.m. on the 21st, the water had already filled the stairs on the first floor."
