Pork without quarantine certificate was sold in two towns in Emeishan City. Relevant departments: Immediate rectification

2024-12-30 10:03 Red Star News

▲On December 19, some pork sold at the Longmen Township Farmers’ Market was not quarantined.
Recently, some villagers in Dawei Town and Longmen Township of Emeishan City, Sichuan Province reported that some butchers in the markets of these two towns were selling uninspected pork, which posed certain safety risks. Red Star News reporters recently visited Dawei Town and Longmen Township of Emeishan City and found that more than 10 butchers in the convenience markets and farmers' markets in the towns did not have inspection and quarantine certificates for pork, nor were they stamped with inspection and quarantine certificates. Subsequently, the reporter reported the situation to the animal husbandry and veterinary station and market supervision office in the jurisdiction. The market supervision department of Emeishan City intervened in the investigation and temporarily detained some butchers' pork, etc., and said that supervision would be further strengthened.
After the Red Star News exclusively reported the incident, it attracted widespread attention and local officials attached great importance to it. The relevant departments immediately held a meeting to study the rectification plan and implement the rectification measures. On December 23, the Red Star News reporter learned from the market supervision and agricultural and rural departments of Emeishan City that the relevant departments had conducted legal publicity and education for the butchers (meat vendors) in the two townships and required immediate rectification. After purchasing the live pigs, the butchers will go to the centralized slaughtering point for slaughter and quarantine, or buy meat directly from the centralized slaughtering point to ensure that the people eat safe meat.
  Reporter visits:
Pork sold in two township markets has no quarantine certificate
Dawei Town is located in a remote mountainous area in the south of Emeishan City. On December 19, a reporter from Red Star News saw at the Dawei temporary convenience market that there were seven or eight meat stalls concentrated on a road section of less than 100 meters, and villagers came to buy meat from time to time. However, the pork on these stalls did not have the inspection and quarantine seal.

▲On December 19, market supervision law enforcement officers conducted an investigation at a stall in the Dawei temporary convenience market.
On the same day, several meat stalls in the Longmen Township Farmers' Market adjacent to Dawei Town also faced similar situations. The pork on sale was also not stamped with the inspection and quarantine seal, and the stall owners were unable to provide inspection and quarantine certificates.
It is understood that before July 2023, butchers in Dawei Town and Longmen Township went to villagers' homes to purchase live pigs and slaughtered them themselves. Considering the special circumstances such as inconvenient transportation in mountainous areas, the official veterinarians of the animal husbandry station would go to the market for mobile quarantine and hand-write certificates and stamp them. After that, the management of pig slaughter quarantine was more standardized, and mobile quarantine was no longer carried out for butchers.
  Department response:
Make corrections immediately to ensure that the people can eat safe meat
In this regard, the agricultural and rural and market supervision departments of Leshan City and Emeishan City attached great importance to it. On December 22, the relevant departments immediately held a meeting to study the rectification plan and implement the rectification measures.
On December 23, a relevant person in charge of the Emeishan Municipal Market Supervision Bureau told Red Star News reporters that they conducted legal publicity and education to more than 10 butchers in Dawei Town and Longmen Township, demanding immediate rectification. At the same time, they fully understood the actual situation and demands reflected by the butchers, and listened to their opinions and suggestions.
The relevant person in charge of the Emeishan Municipal Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau said that the bureau had interviewed the person in charge of the Longchi centralized slaughterhouse and required the slaughterhouse to provide standardized pig slaughtering services. In order to facilitate the butchers in Longmen Township, which is far away from transportation, free door-to-door transportation is available for pigs that need to be slaughtered if there are more than 5 pigs.
The relevant persons in charge of the above two departments stated that currently most butchers have expressed that after purchasing the live pigs, they are willing to go to the centralized slaughtering points for slaughter and quarantine, or directly purchase the pork that has been centrally slaughtered and quarantined from the slaughtering points.
It is understood that Dawei Town and Longmen Township only hold market days on odd days. On the next market day (December 25), relevant departments will supervise the implementation of rectification on site to ensure that the people can eat safe meat.
