Peking University Shougang Hospital successfully conducted a Chikungunya fever prevention and control emergency drill, comprehensively improving the effectiveness of epidemic prevention and control.

Chikungunya fever is an acute infectious disease transmitted by mosquitoes. Its symptoms such as fever, severe joint pain, and rash are easily confused with other infectious diseases. Rapid identification, standardized treatment, and multi-department collaboration are the key to improving treatment efficiency.
In order to effectively respond to the risk of imported Chikungunya fever epidemics and comprehensively strengthen the core capabilities for emergency response to public health emergencies, on July 29, the Infection Management and Disease Control Department of Shougang Hospital took the lead in organizing multiple departments to carry out a full-process Chikungunya fever epidemic prevention and control emergency drill.
This exercise uses practical standards to test the coordinated effectiveness of the rescue system and to gather cross-departmental collaboration. Multiple departments participated, including the Infection Management and Disease Control Department, Medical Department, Nursing Department, Outpatient Department, Infectious Diseases Department, General Affairs Department, Laboratory Department, Medical Engineering Department, Pharmacy Department, and Medical Imaging Center.
To ensure the effectiveness of the drill, the Infection Management and Disease Control Department took the lead in formulating a detailed drill plan by combining the "Technical Guidelines for Chikungunya Fever Prevention and Control (2025 Edition)" with the hospital's clinical reality, and clarified the responsibility boundaries and process nodes of each department one by one, ensuring that the drill fits the real scenario and highlighting the focus of multi-department collaboration, laying a solid foundation for actual combat simulation.
The drill simulated a typical case scenario: a patient with a recent travel history to an area where Chikungunya fever is prevalent went to the fever clinic of the infectious disease department due to symptoms of fever, rash, and joint pain.
During the pre-examination and triage phase, nurses complete temperature checks, medical history inquiries, and travel history tracing in a standardized manner. After confirming that the patient has a high fever and a history of mosquito bites in endemic areas, they are immediately guided to the designated area for treatment.
The attending doctor quickly makes a diagnosis of suspected cases based on the symptoms, simultaneously initiates the isolation and disposal process, and completes the infectious disease reporting in accordance with the regulations.
After the drill, each department immediately organized a summary and evaluation, reviewing the entire process. They not only fully affirmed the effectiveness of the drill, but also accurately pointed out the details that could be optimized in the process, and put forward three specific requirements:
First, we will continue to refine emergency response plans , focus on weak links, improve operational specifications, and ensure more efficient connection between all links;
Second, strengthen emergency supplies reserves to ensure that protective equipment, disinfectants, mosquito repellents, etc. are readily available;
The third is to deepen the joint prevention and control mechanism, strengthen communication among departments, and ensure information exchange and rapid response.
Through practical drills, not only was the hospital's emergency preparedness in terms of personnel deployment, equipment and facilities, medicines and protective supplies systematically tested, but the medical staff and related personnel's awareness of prevention and control of the Chikungunya fever epidemic was also enhanced, and their self-protection capabilities were improved.
The head of the Infection Management and Disease Control Department emphasized that the significance of this drill extends beyond Chikungunya prevention and control, but also comprehensively strengthens the hospital's ability to respond to various mosquito-borne infectious diseases. Given the complex and volatile global pandemic situation, the hospital will use this drill as an opportunity to further clarify the responsibilities and duties of each department in epidemic prevention and control, and continuously improve its emergency response mechanisms. The hospital also called on all medical staff to remain vigilant and continuously improve their emergency response skills to ensure a swift and scientific response to sudden outbreaks, effectively safeguarding the health of the community.
