China - Parent, 45, died after "a sudden illness" while picking up his child from school, Zhangjiajie, Hunan province - December 29, 2025

A parent in Zhangjiajie collapsed and died while guarding a primary school student after school. Local authorities stated that the parent died after being taken to the hospital due to a sudden illness. Relevant departments have intervened in the case.

  On the afternoon of December 29, a parent collapsed while standing guard at the gate of an elementary school in Yongding District, Zhangjiajie, and died after being taken to the hospital. On the morning of December 30, staff at the elementary school told reporters from Jimu News that the parent was only 45 years old and his child was in the third grade. The school and relevant departments are handling the matter.
  A parent told a reporter from Jimu News that around 5 p.m. on the 29th, when she was picking up her child from Tianmen Primary School in Yongding District, Zhangjiajie City, she saw a parent who was standing guard at the school gate collapse on the ground. "When I found him, he had already collapsed, and there were many parents picking up their children watching." The parent explained that standing guard at the school gate means standing at the school gate when school is over. "He collapsed before school was over, and he was taken to the hospital afterwards."
  A reporter from Jimu News noticed that on the morning of the 30th, a netizen posted a video on a social media platform and wrote: "My brother died while guarding Tianmen Primary School in Zhangjiajie... My brother was only 45 years old." In replying to other netizens' comments, the netizen revealed that the 45-year-old brother had two children, the eldest being 17 years old and the younger one being in the third grade of primary school.
  The reporter from Jimu News attempted to contact the netizen but received no response.



  On the morning of the 30th, a reporter from Jimu News contacted Tianmen Primary School in Yongding District. Staff members said that the parent involved in the incident died suddenly from an illness at the age of 45. Their child was in the third grade. The school and relevant local departments are handling the matter.
  An official from the Yongding District Education Bureau stated that the parent fainted less than two minutes after taking the school safety post and died after being taken to the hospital. "The school safety post is a voluntary one for parents, and the school and the Education Bureau are handling this matter."
  An official from the Zhangjiajie Municipal Education Bureau stated that staff from the relevant departments are handling the matter.
