As a precautionary measure to prevent a possible outbreak of the H7N9 avian flu plaguing eastern mainland China, the Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA) is closely watching the migrant birds living in the natural reserve in Cotai...
To prevent this form of the deadly flu, last Friday DSPA said they had sent staff to observe the situation of the wild birds in the Cotai natural reserve zone, and up to the present moment they have not detected any abnormalities.
Facing the outbreak of the epidemiological situation of avian influenza H7N9 in mainland China, DSPA and IACM have activated their coordination and cooperation mechanism for epidemic prevention, by stepping up the inspection of samples of bird droppings in the Cotai ecological zones, and by placing additional warning signs in the areas where birds are concentrated, to alert observers to avoid contact with birds, including their droppings and bird eggs, in order to reduce the risk of contracting the disease.
To ensure the safety of employees and visitors in the ecological zone, DSPA has issued a set of guidelines to the company operating the park, as well as instructions to the maintenance staff and security personnel working in the area. The guidelines also require the company to provide their workers with personal protective equipment. DSPA and IACM also advised the waste management operator CSR to provide the appropriate personal protective equipment to their workers..."
