Test results show the vaccine worked well in human bodies, with no serious adverse reactions.

Chinese scientists began their research on bird flu vaccine in 2005.
The recently concluded second phase of clinical trial show the vaccine to be both safe and efficacious.

Over 400 people ranging in age from 18 to 60 took the trial test between September and November. Based on their age, they were given different dosages of the vaccine.

Test results show the vaccine worked well in human bodies, with no serious adverse reactions.

Scientist Yin Weidong said, "Clinical tests show the best immunization procedure is injecting 2 vaccines with 10 micrograms each within 28 days. The final procedure will be approved by the State Food and Drug Administration."

Yin Weidong added that China is now capable of mass-producing bird flu vaccines, and is ready to tackle any outbreak of bird flu.

The vaccine is jointly developed by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Beijing-based vaccine producer Sinovac Biotech. Its research and development has been supported by both the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Health.

China successfully concludes bird flu virus phase II trials

New Delhi, December 25 (ANI): Chinese researchers have successfully concluded the second phase of tests with a human vaccine against the deadly bird flu virus, with results showing it to be safe and effective.

An official involved in the trials has revealed that about 400 people aged between 18 and 60 were administered the vaccine between September and November.

The drug is said to have performed well on the subjects, without causing any side effects.

?China is capable of producing bird flu vaccines for humans in appropriate quantities,? the China Daily quoted Zhang Jiansan, the vice general manager of Beijing-based vaccine producer Sinovac Biotech, as telling Xinhua.

The World Health Organisation has hailed the progress made by Chinese researchers.

?Around a year ago China announced the first phase of clinical tests for a human vaccine,? a Beijing-based WHO spokeswoman said in an e-mail.

?It?s encouraging that China is making progress but WHO needs more information to properly comment. We?ll be talking to the Chinese researchers for more information,? she added. (ANI)
