[Fighting rumors in progress] Netizens fabricated rumors about Chikungunya fever and were administratively punished!

Recently, Hubei police discovered in the course of their work that a netizen posted a video of himself receiving medical treatment at a clinic on an online platform, with the text saying "The Chikungunya fever epidemic has started again, and more than 3,000 people have been infected in Huanggang." This false information quickly attracted the attention of netizens and caused adverse social impacts.
Upon posting, the video garnered 642 likes, 203 comments, and nine reposts, causing some public panic. Hubei police quickly launched an investigation and summoned Zhang, suspected of spreading rumors, to the police station for investigation.
The investigation confirmed that Zhang, without verification, believed misinformation from others and arbitrarily disseminated false information about the epidemic through social media platforms, causing the spread of rumors. His actions violated Article 25, Paragraph 1 of the "Public Security Administration Punishment Law of the People's Republic of China," constituting the act of spreading rumors and disrupting public order . Public security authorities have already imposed administrative penalties on Zhang in accordance with the law .
The internet is not a lawless place. Every netizen should consciously abide by laws and regulations and refrain from fabricating, believing, or spreading rumors. Spreading rumors or falsely reporting epidemic situations seriously disrupts public order, and public security organs will severely punish them in accordance with the law. Creating a clean and transparent cyberspace requires the concerted efforts of all of society.
