Nearly 300 faithful were treated in hospital for acute respiratory infections Tirana
17/Julio/2010 - 10:45
About 300 people with acute respiratory infections were treated at the Field Hospital, located in the town of La Tirana, the interior of Iquique, where the festivities were held in honor of the Virgen del Carmen, which brought together nearly 200 thousand parishioners .

This was announced by the Undersecretary of Public Health, Liliana Jadue, who visited the site and attended the solemn Mass celebrated by the Bishop of Iquique, Mark Bishop Orders.

La Tirana is at an altitude of 950 meters above sea level. The sun is present throughout the year, the afternoons are warm, but the night is cold and cold is felt strongly in the morning.

Jadue explained that surveillance activities were implemented were developed by the Health Seremi Tarapac?, installing a hospital in La Tirana, which until Thursday 15, 533 people had been treated, of whom 291 (55%) was for acute respiratory infection.

They also reached 35 people (7%) for minor accidents with no serious domestic type, 29 cases (5%) for decompensated chronic diarrhea and 36 (1%).

On the occasion Jadue thanked the efforts of the Bishop of Iquique, in conjunction with representatives of guilds and religious dances, to improve vaccination coverage against influenza A H1N1, that in the region reached 90 percent.

Sent to ProMed.

I'm not sure where the alarm is here. 200,000 people attend a festival (during winter), and 533 of them seek medical treatment, of which 291 of them are ARI. It sounds like the "hospital" in question is just the festival medical facility, not an ER or ICU.

That's 0.15% roughly. Isn't that below expected, especially mentioning the fluctuation in weather?

There is no alarm. ProMed tracks many things including plant diseases.
