Mangalore, June 3: District administration has decided to make use of high school students to put a ?break? for the breeding of Chikungunya infected mosquitoes, at an official meet on Chikungunya held under the presidentship of Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao here on Saturday.

DC directed ZP CEO A M Kunjappa to send a circular to all the schools requesting the students to undertake the work on cleaning the surroundings of their house on Sunday. It was also decided to advertise in media to lure the children.

Rao directed the health department to keep an eye on the spread of chikungunya in Sullia, Belthangady and Puttur taluks.

He said all the measures taken to contain the spread of Chikungunya should be followed strictly. An awareness programme on the control of chikungunya should be held in every gram panchayats. Team of doctors should visit villages. Check up units should be opened in those areas where the chikungunya cases are rampant. The units should be open for at least 2 to 3 hours to distribute medicines daily. Vehicle arrangement should be made for the transportation of health staff to the units.

He said taluk level committees have been constituted. They will have direct contact with the medical colleges. Committee officials can seek any help from the Medical Colleges.

The meet also discussed on the Malaria in City. Dr Suresh informed the meeting that Malaria control is not possible owing to the construction of buildings. Labourers who come from outside the district get Malaria. They do not undergo treatment properly. DC directed the officials to take down the address, mobile number of all those who come for the treatment of Malaria.

DHO Dr Jagannath, CEO A M Kunjappa, MCC Commissioner P K Subbaiah, Health and Family Welfare department Divisional Director Ravikumar were present.
