GUNTUR: The presentation of Chikun Gunya by the District Medical and Health Officer Suresh Kumar at the DRC meeting sent the MPs, MLAs and top officials into peels of laughter.

Even as Suresh Kumar was speaking, Guntur MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao wanted to know why a picture of the mosquito was not shown in the power point presentation.

The officer gilbly said he would do it next time. There were loud guffaws when the DMHO said the district had just four cases of Chikun Gunya.

These statistics were immediately contested by Tenali MLA Nadendla Manohar. He said these figures are laughable as thousands were down with the affliction.

When Tadikonda MLA D Manikya Varaprasad wanted to know how efficacious the anti-Chikungunya homoeo medicines were in curbing the affliction, the DMHO said no such proof was forthcoming and that there was no scientific basis for such claims.

Then the MLA asked him, why the medicines were being distributed on such a large scale. The DMHO retored, ?We are doing because the government wants us to do so.? This made all the participants look sideways and then burst into laughter.
