Chadwick school closing for week due to flu outbreak

Chadwick will close its school for the rest of the week starting Tuesday because of an increase in absences due to flu-like symptoms, said Principal Dana Comstock.

The school made the decision to shut down after 41 absences were reported Monday morning out of the 250 students in the kindergarten through high school building.

Comstock said the absences were due to the influenza but none are confirmed to be the H1N1 flu. Many clinics are not testing for the H1N1 influenza because the treatments are the same.

The school will do ?major disinfection? this week so school can reopen next Monday, she said.

As far as making up the three days, Comstock said Chadwick Superintendent Dr. Bill Wheeler will have to make that decision. Thursday and Friday were scheduled half days.News-Leader staff ? October 26, 2009
