Summary
1. There were no new confirmed human cases of avian influenza A(H5N1) reported by the World Health Organization (WHO). #
2. From 2008 to 2012, 32 to 73 confirmed human cases of avian influenza A(H5N1) were reported to WHO annually. In 2013 (as of December 7), 38 cases were reported by WHO.
3. During this reporting period, two confirmed human cases of avian influenza A(H7N9) in Hong Kong were reported by the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health. One confirmed human case of avian influenza A(H7N9) in Zhejiang Province was reported by the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC). As of December 7, a total of 143 cases were reported.
Hong Kong: Two cases of human infection with avian influenza A(H7N9) were confirmed.
One case is a 36-year-old Indonesian domestic helper. She had handled a chicken with a friend while in Shenzhen. She was in critical condition at the time of reporting. (CHP, December 2, 2013)
One case is an 80-year-old man, who has been living in Shenzhen for quite a long time. His family member had prepared and cooked a chicken slaughtered in market. He was in stable condition at the time of reporting. (CHP, December 6, 2013)
Zhejiang: One case of human infection with avian influenza A(H7N9) was reported in Zhejiang Province affecting a 30-year-old man. He was in stable condition. (NHFPC, December 6, 2013)
