UN-Workshop-Flu
An inception workshop under regional network on avian influenza in central asian countries will be held in Tehran from 30 october to 2 November 2006.
According to the United Nations Information Center, Organized by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) representative office in Tehran, representatives (mainly chief veterinary officers) from the Islamic Republic of Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan Kyrgyzstan Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will participate in the workshop.
In addition to the above participants, four technical officers from FAO headquarters in Rome and one poultry officer from FAO Afghanistan will travel to Iran for the workshop.
The statement added, also an avian influenza expert from International Organization for Animal Health (Office International des Epizooties-OIE) as well as another experts from FAO/OIE International Reference Laboratory will join this group.
UNIC noted, "The main objective of the inception workshop is to discuss the principles and a strategic consideration developed under the global strategy for the progress control of Avian Influenza and the Strategic Framework for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) prevention and control in Asia and the Pacific for the Asian Development Bank."
This principles will lead to the promotion of surveillance activities at regional level and to the development of shared approaches for the prevention and control of HPAI.
The statement declared, "It is likely that the requirements needed to carry out activities within a common framework will vary among countries and a sub-objective of the workshop is to identify needs to fulfill such requirements."
