Taipei, May 8 (CNA) The public should pay more attention to personal hygiene as Taiwan is in the grip of an enterovirus outbreak, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) warned Friday.
The CDC said the number of patients seeking emergency treatment for enterovirus symptoms had increased to 427 in the one-week period April 26 to May 2, representing an emergency consultation rate of 3.45 permil, higher than the epidemic threshold of 2.7 permil.
Escalating enterovirus outbreaks in neighboring countries have also made the situation more challenging, the CDC said, adding that as of late April, the number of reported enterovirus infections in Japan had reached 17,000, in Singapore 8,800, and in Vietnam 13,000...
