Re: CDC Update: Influenza A (H3N2) Variant Virus Media Briefing Today at 1:00 pm

My notes via live tweeting:

Tom Skinner is speaking - increase in #H3N2v cases is reason for briefing @CDCFlu

Bresee - 145 total confirmed cases #H3N2v in #USA - proven swine exposure in most cases @CDCFlu

Bresee - No deaths reported yet. Most cases in children #H3N2v @CDCFlu

Bresee - Allowing states to confirm @H3N2v cases for real time data @CDCFlu #H3N2v

Bresee - No evidence of sustained H2H transmission of #H3N2v yet. Pigs at fairs appear to be main transmission factor. @CDCFlu

Bresee - Expect more human cases of #H3N2v - some evidence of limited H2H seen in past - expect to see this also in future @CDCFlu

Bresee - #H3N2v is sensitive to oseltamivir @CDCFlu

Bresee - He is now giving CDC prevention advice which we will tweet in detail after this media briefing #H3N2v @CDCFlu

Bresee - The latest #H3N2v cases all have M gene and are genetically very similar. @CDCFlu

Bresee - Not advising to cancel swine showing at fairs. #H3N2v @CDCFlu

Bresee-Since July 2011-a total of 5 hospitalizations 4 #H3N2v -all recovered- people w/risk factors need 2 use #flu preventions @CDCFlu

AP reporter at briefing says Dr. Larkin w/Indiana state DOH reports 120 #H3N2v cases as of a few hours ago-up from 113 yesterday @CDCFlu

Bresee - So far no confirmed H2H #H3N2v transmission in 2012 -in 2011 there were a few H3N2v cases with no proven swine exposure @CDCFlu

Bresee - Standard #flu precautions r 2 b used 4 this strain.i.e.wash hands frequently,stay home when sick,go 2 doc if ill #H3N2v @cdcflu

Tom Skinner - CDC will be releasing #H3N2v case counts once a week starting Aug 10 @CDCFlu
