CDC Press Briefing: Pandemic Flu Preparedness

Re: CDC Press Briefing: Pandemic Flu Preparedness

For the first time, the new CDC guidelines illustrate how public health recommendations should or may vary depending on the projected severity of a pandemic

This is an excellent development. Many of the national plans - inc. the UK plan, which I am most familiar with - have a one size fits all response. While they acknowledge a range of CFRs they do not adequately change the plan to account for them. The response required to a 57/68 type pandemic has little resemblance to an appropriate response to an a 1918 pandemic or - god forbid -an unattenuated H5N1 pandemic. We need separate plans for each, not one (typically based on 57/68) which is adapted on the fly.
