Chikungunya confirmed in Antigua

St.John?s, Antigua ? There has been one confirmed case of the Chikungunya disease in Antigua, ministry of health report.
At a press conference Friday morning, Medical Officer of Health Orita Zachariah announced that the case was confirmed on April 22.
The infected individual is between the age of 60 and 65, from the southern part of the island and works in St John?s.
Chief Health Inspector Lionel Michael says the department of health will increase vector control as it seeks to prevent the increase of the mosquito-spread disease.
There are reportedly four other suspected cases and the Ministry has sent blood samples to the Caribbean Public Health Agency for analysis.
Chikungunya first appeared in the Western Hemisphere in St Maarten and has since been found in Dominica, St Lucia and St Vincent.
