Measles: 15 health districts in epidemic

Measles is still present in Cameroon . Information noted in the latest report on the epidemiological situation of diseases with epidemiological potential (MAPE) in Cameroon for the month of May 2024. Concretely, the country has a total of 306 cases of measles for this year 2024. A little less than during the same period Last year. Cases are confirmed in these areas over the weeks. The Dang district thus appears, according to this report, as the one most recently affected (precisely in week 15, around the end of April).
However, the measles epidemic is not progressing as quickly as last year. Indeed, a regression is perceptible in the Central region in particular. It goes from 2,232 cases for the whole of 2023 to 14 cases in the first half of 2024. The same for the South-West (from 363 cases in 2023 to three cases in 2024). Certainly the result of the national vaccination campaign against measles and rubella organized from July 5 to 9, 2023 in the ten regions of the country. For the occasion, 5.5 million children aged 9 months to 5 years were targeted.
