Cambodia: Health investigates a bud of flu aviaria

Mellie: This is out in the Spanish press, first time I've found something there when I've searched on "gripe aviaria" before it's shown up in the English-speaking press -- unless the story was from a Spanish-speaking country (as wildfires sometimes are...). I had it ready yesterday but the site was down. Just shows how addicted we can be to online community eh?

Health investigates possible bud of avian flu in north of the country

The sanitary authorities of Cambodia investigate a supposed bud of flu aviar in the north of the country, where an unusual number of people with respiratory infections has been detected and fever after to die animals of corral, among them chickens.

The team of sent Health to the zone has been found, nevertheless, with an additional problem, before the strong torrential rains and the poor road infrastructure, with almost nonexistent highways in some sections.

As it said by telephone the deputy governor Hor Kim to Wet, of the district of OR' Chum, in the province of Ratanakirri, some 400 kilometers al northeastern of Phnom Penh, the team that directs has remained stagnant in the clay due to that 'the rain has been very intense and the highways are evils'.

The deputy governor added that he expects to arrive Tuesday to the zone affected.

In turn, the epidemi?loga of the world health Organization (WHO) Megge Miller explained that the department of Health sent a team to the zone to take samples of all the sick with similar symptoms to the of the flu aviar.

'Do not we expect to have those results to Thursday because (the samples) have to be transported by highway and is a very remote area. We are enough interested in seeing the results', indicated the expert.

Miller declared that Ratanakirri is not one of the respected provinces of high risk with respect to a bud of flu aviar owed downward concentration of chickens in that zone.

Nevertheless, it added, the province is frontier with Vietnam, one of the most affected countries by the virus H5N1, and receives in its abrupt land a national park, home of numerous wild animals besides migratory birds.

Since in 2003 the flu was detected aviar, this has caused the death of 113 people in nine countries of the world, between them 6 Cambodians and 42 Vietnamese, according to the data of the WHO.

Looks like Malaysia and Cambodia are having some problems.

Translated quote of the week:

'the rain has been very intense and the highways are evils'

There is nothing worse than evil highways. Nothing.
