Bird flu alert in Sen Sok district

Mom Kunthear / Khmer Times

A new case of H5N1, or bird flu, has been found in Phnom Penh?s Sen Sok district after the National Institute of Animal Health and Production found the virus in three chickens.

Veng Sakhon, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, has ordered the joint committee of Phnom Penh municipal authorities to take action to prevent the movement of birds and products from Phnom Penh Thmey village in Sen Sok district.

?On January 9, the results of tests on samples of chickens were found to have the H5N1 virus in three chickens in Phnom Penh Thmey commune, so the joint committee and also all levels of local authorities have to cooperate to take action to prevent the temporarily movement of birds (chickens) from around three kilometres of the place,? said Mr Sakhon.
