Dengue cases up by over 100 per cent first five months of 2022

In the first 22 weeks of this year, dengue fever cases have increased by over 100 per cent compared to the same period last year, with over 1,300 cases recorded along with three deaths.

The Ministry of Health said in a January-May report which was released late on June 10 that a total of 1,354 dengue cases have now been reported.

Based on their entomology surveillance and weather factors which saw increasing rain earlier this year, the ministry concluded that dengue cases will increase this rainy season in some provinces, especially those which have more construction sites and a high population...

Dengue fever cases up threefold

In a little more than six months, dengue fever cases have risen to nearly 3,000 and killed several people. This was a threefold increase over the same period last year, according to the National Dengue Control Programme (NDCP).

NDCP director Leang Rithea said that from January 1 to July 10, NDCP had recorded 2,869 cases and seven deaths, mostly children.

He attributed his year’s increase to climate change, saying that frequent rainfall meant an increase in standing water – the breeding ground for the mosquitoes that carry the disease.

“We know that it rained more this year. There are several factors contributing to the increase in cases –climate change, heat, humidity, rainfall. Ultimately, the more it rains, the more mosquitoes there are,” he added.

Rithea said that despite the increases, the NDCP had brought it under control by working with many partners, especially local authorities...

Cambodia recorded nearly 8,000 dengue fever cases in the first nine months of this year – a threefold jump compared to the same period last year.

The Ministry of Health’s National Dengue Control Program (NDCP) director Leang Rithea said yesterday that the mosquito-borne disease killed 14 people, mostly children aged between two months and two years old during the January-September period this year.

He added that an increase in precipitation in the early rainy season was blamed for the rise in dengue fever cases and while people are worried about Covid-19 disease they have become negligent regarding dengue fever...

21 monks hospitalised with dengue, chikungunya

Raising concerns about public health, dengue fever and chikungunya were spreading among monks of Khnach Romeas pagoda located at Khnach Romeas commune of Bavel district in Battambang province.

Of the 150 monks living in the pagoda, 21 were admitted to Thmar Koul District Referral Centre for emergency treatment after they developed severe symptoms of the two mosquito-borne diseases.

Venerable Ip Phearun, representative of Khnach Romeas pagoda, yesterday told Khmer Times yesterday that four monks had been suffering from fever and dizziness a few days back. But on Tuesday, around 8pm, suddenly 18 monks fell ill with high temperature of up to 39 degrees and they were taken to the hospital by ambulance at 11pm on Tuesday...

9,000 dengue fever cases recorded over past 10 months

Cambodia recorded more than 9,000 dengue fever cases which killed 16 people in the past ten months of this year.

The Ministry of Health’s National Dengue Control Program (NDCP) director Leang Rithea said that from January to October, there were 9,482 cases of dengue fever. Of those, 16 deaths were recorded, an increase of nearly seven times compared to the same period last year with 1,406 cases and three deaths.

He said that the provinces at high risk of dengue fever include Banteay Meanchey, Kampong Speu, Prey Veng, Siem Reap, Takeo, Pursat and Tbong Khmum as well as the capital...
