Rare horses threatened by flu
Staff Reports

LOS MOLINOS ? Sunshine Sanctuary for Kids and Horses in Los Molinos, is seeking donations to pay for equine flu vaccine due to the recent outbreak in the area.

The nonprofit is home to the last remaining Spanish colonial horses from the island of Santa Cruz. The flu virus could wipe this one-of-a-kind breed from existence within days.

Founder Christine Nooner has cancelled events at the site and children and volunteers are on hold in hopes that self-quarantine will keep the deadly virus at bay until vaccines can be given to the herd.

Due to severe flooding and unexpected veterinary bills, the sanctuary is unable to purchase the vaccines it needs to keep the horses safe.

Donations are tax deductible and can be made by direct mail to Sunshine Sanctuary for Kids and Horses, 10931 Singer Ave., Los Molino, CA, 96055; or deposited into accounts at US Bank and Butte Community Bank under the name Sunshine Sanctuary for Kids and Horses; or through the sanctuary's Web site at www.sunshinesanctuary.org/donate.htm
