BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The City of Bakersfield Animal Care Center(CBACC) is seeing an alarming rate of distemper and pneumonia spreading in the shelter and across the community.

Distemper is a highly contagious viral infection that is primarily targeting those with weak immune systems like puppies and older dogs.

The probability of dying from the disease is nearly guaranteed for puppies; older dogs have a 50-percent chance of survival.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for distemper, however, in Bakersfield, you can find low-cost vaccines clinics...
