Berkeley High reports second mumps case, believed to be transmitted on campus

​A second case of mumps, a highly infectious viral infection that causes facial swelling, has been reported on the Berkeley High campus — prompting public health officials to elevate the exposure risk for those in the school community from low to moderate.

The second person is believed to have contracted the virus from the first person on campus on Feb. 19 or 20, Berkeley public health officials said in an alert sent to Berkeley High parents and guardians Wednesday.​..
