Man tests positive for West Nile Virus in Stanislaus County

The Stanislaus County Health Services Agency has reported the first case of West Nile Virus in a person for this season.

The agency said the individual is an adult male with a non-neuroinvasive form of the virus but did not say what town he resides in.​..

A Contra Costa County man has died from West Nile virus — the first reported county death from the disease since 2006.

Contra Costa Health said Friday in a statement that the victim lived in East County. The death was reported to the county on July 16.

The Contra Costa Mosquito and Vector Control District has detected other recent evidence of the virus’ presence in East County. One bird and five sentinel chickens have tested positive for the virus in Oakley.​..

Butte County reports first West Nile virus death of the year

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - The Butte County Department of Public Health said they received notification of a death due to complications of the West Nile virus infection.

BCPH said this marks the first human WNV death in 2024 for Butte County. The person was between 40 and 50 years old and suffered from a severe, neuro-invasive WNV illness. The death was reported to BCPH on Monday.

BCPH urges people to protect themselves from WNV by reducing mosquitoes on their property and preventing mosquito bites.

As of August 16, 13 human cases and three WNV-related deaths have been reported in California this year.​

Butte County has highest number of human West Nile Virus cases in California

CHICO, Calif. - Butte County has the most human cases of West Nile Virus (WNV) of any county in California in 2024. Seven of the state's 19 WNV cases are in Butte County. No other county has more than two.

Among the three WNV deaths in California this year, one of them was in Butte County. The individual was between 40-50 years old and suffered from a severe, neuro-invasive WNV illness.​

Tehama County public health officials announced Friday that one person has died from west Nile virus, the second death in the county from the disease in the past two years.

The person died within the past two weeks and was an "older individual," said Minnie Sagar, the county director of public health. Out of concern for the individual's privacy, Sagar said she did not want to be more specific about the person's age or date of death...

....Statewide, in 2024 there have been 27 human cases of west Nile virus found in humans, according to the California Department of Public Health

Orange County reports this year’s first human case of West Nile virus in Huntington Beach

Public health officials on Wednesday confirmed Orange County’s first human case of West Nile virus so far this year was reported in the city of Huntington Beach.

The individual — whose identity is not being released out of confidentiality — was hospitalized earlier this month with signs of infection but has since been discharged and is now recovering at home, Orange County Health Care Agency Medical Director Dr. Matthew Zahn said Friday in an email to the Daily Pilot.​..

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Fresno County Department of Public Health (FCDPH) has confirmed the first case in Fresno County in 2024 where West Nile Virus (WNV) contributed to a human death.

According to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) in 2024 so far, there have been 38 reported human West Nile cases in California, including four deaths.

Since West Nile was first introduced into California in 2003, there have been more than 8,900 human West Nile cases and more than 390 West Nile-related deaths across the state.​..
