The Japan Business Federation, widely known as Nippon Keidanren, also recommended that the government bolster stockpiles of such vaccines to enable all vaccination hopefuls to be given injections.
Japan has already stockpiled pandemic vaccines for 20 million people that are based on H5N1 avian influenza viruses.
The government is planning to administer the vaccines to 6,000 quarantine officials, healthcare workers and other designated people shortly. It is also considering expanding the plan to vaccinate police officials.
But the business lobby proposed that the government "create an environment that would enable all people with desires to be vaccinated to be administered the vaccine, in addition to people who are engaged in professions for preserving crucial functions of society."
The business lobby also recommended that the government set up a medical research system to enable Japan to quickly develop and mass- manufacture new variations of pandemic vaccines soon after new types of influenza break out. It also proposed that the government boost stockpiles of Tamiflu and other anti-flu medicines. :tiphat:
