Sofia. 1 million birds are affected by avian influenza in 2018. This is what the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Rumen Porozhanov said from the floor of the National Assembly in response to a parliamentary question on the spread of avian influenza, FOCUS News Agency reported .
"Since 2006, 23 outbreaks of avian influenza have been detected in wild ducks in Bulgaria. In poultry, the disease first appeared in 2015 with one outbreak, 20 outbreaks in 2016, 53 outbreaks in 2017, and 26 outbreaks this year. The affected industrial farms have a total of 20 in 2018. The total number of birds in all affected farms is over 1 million, with 91% of them in the hen farms, "Minister Porozhanov said.
He pointed out that BSAF has taken a number of measures to limit and eradicate the disease in and around sites with an established genome. "The Situation Control Strategy introduces measures that aim at prevention, early detection and avoidance of further spread of the infection. Since the beginning of this year, a total of 104 prescriptions, 23 acts of administrative violation and 50 detentions have been issued. The results so far show that virus circulation continues to exist in poultry farms, "Porozhanov said.
