The State Secretariat of Agriculture and Livestock (SAR) and the Integrated Agricultural Development Company of Santa Catarina (Cidasc) confirmed, this week, the detection of the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza virus (H5N1) in a subsistence poultry farm in the municipality of Meleiro, in the southern region of the state.
According to the authorities, the Federal Laboratory for Agricultural Defense of São Paulo (LFDA/SP) analyzed the samples collected. The laboratory, internationally recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health (WHOA), acts as a reference in the diagnosis of the disease. The confirmation of the case reinforces the importance of health surveillance throughout the Santa Catarina territory.
