Suspicion of hemorrhagic fever is excluded. I'm not sure what bacteria this is referring to; perhaps E. coli, although antibiotic treatment of E. coli is not a good idea. Of note also is that the two fatal cases appear to be female, not male as previously translated:

IPATINGA - Visits Relocation Center for Prisoners Ipatinga (Ceresp) are already released. According to a statement released on Thursday (17) by the Municipal Health Ipatinga, after studies at the site and tissue samples collected from the bodies of prisoners who died was not identified any risk of disease transmission by contact prisoners.
Also dropped was definitely a risk to the population. According to the Secretariat, it was found that the mysterious illness that killed two inmates and contaminated other was caused "by an enteric bacterial infection transmitted by water or food." The department also said that none of the arrested men had symptoms and all the other inmates hospitalized in the Hospital Municipal evolved as well to antibiotic treatment.

The CASE
The Ceresp Ipatinga went into quarantine after two female inmates of the cell died of a disease of unknown etiology, and another 18 were hospitalized, including two prison guards presenting headache, muscle aches, fever and vomiting.
The first case, Aline Smith, 19, was treated at the Hospital Municipal Ipatinga on the 8th of this month, having evolved to death. On day 10, Dandara Maiara, 19, was taken with the same symptoms and died the next day.
Because of the suspected outbreak of unknown disease with a risk of contagion within and outside the prison unit, the State Department of Health decided to put the entire prison unit in quarantine. During the investigation of cases and the epidemiological situation was observed that the inmates who died arrived at the City Hospital with clinical Ipatinga quite advanced, possibly due to the rapid evolution of the disease, which according to the Office of Communications City Hall would have hampered the response treatment. Another six women of the same cell also showed a similar clinical picture Aline and Dandara and were soon being treated with antibiotics, responding well to treatment.

RESULT
According to the Communications Office of the Secretary of State for Health, the results of laboratory tests must leave within 30 days. Also according to the advice, the diagnosis of unknown disease must first be notified to the families of inmates who died and then to the Municipal Department of Health Ipatinga.

Last week Dandara de Arruda, 19 and Aline Smith, also of 19 years died after giving entry to the Municipal Hospital Ipatinga.

The two were arrested together on suspicion of drug trafficking and slept in the same bed in the prison. According to the State Government, in all 20 people, including inmates and staff, had to be sent to the hospital.

Presenting symptoms were fever, vomiting, malaise and low blood pressure. One wing of the Municipal Hospital in the city was reserved only for this service. The report sought on Wednesday (6) [June/2012] Communication from the advice of the Ezequiel Dias Foundation. By telephone, he was told not yet completed the analysis of samples collected in the county jail. "A lot of material was collected and requires more time for analysis," claimed the sector of communication. The FUNED also informed that there is no provision for dissemination of results. The State Department of Health only confirms the lack of completion of the analysis.

Tests such as blood cultures were performed on detainees. In addition, samples were also collected food and water are served to the inmates Ceresp as a way to identify the contaminants. In the second week of May, two inmates died of a single cell with symptoms of fever, vomiting, low blood pressure and exhaustion. This picture was seen in prison guards and other inmates. In total, 20 people underwent medical Ceresp Municipal Hospital Ipatinga. The situation led to the isolation of the prison, with the suspension of visits.
