Piracicaba has three confirmed cases of leptospirosis. The three patients had contact with the water from the floods that hit the city earlier this month.

The Epidemiological Surveillance reported through the press office of the Secretary of Health, there are 17 reported cases, but did not live in that neighborhood people. Leptospirosis is caused by the bacterium Leptospira, found in mouse urine.

Among the confirmed cases, two people, according to the secretary, came into contact with contaminated water as they swam in the river Piracicaba points or flooded. Last week in Santa Barbara d'Oeste, was a confirmed case of the disease in a patient who had contact with floods in Piracicaba.

The guidance office is that people who live in areas that were flooded seek a health care facility once they realize the disease symptoms and to report contact with flooding.
