Bird spotters asked to help combat deadly virus threatening species
A new and deadly virus is threatening one of the country's most common garden birds.
The strain of avian pox leaves great tits with coloured tumours that can make them easier to spot by predators or stop them feeding or breeding.
Species such as house sparrow and wood pigeons have been hit for a number of years but the new form causes particularly large growths in tits.
Bird lovers are now being asked to report signs of the disease and keep bird tables clean to prevent it spreading...
