Jaisalmer: An investigation report from a laboratory in Bhopal on Wednesday revealed that the Demoiselle cranes found dead recently in Jaisalmer had died from bird flu, an official said.

The Jaisalmer district administration has declared the Luneri pond area of Degrai Oran an infected hotspot and is taking effective steps to prevent the spread of the infection, officials said.

On January 11, the bodies of six cranes were found in the pond area of Degrai Oran, followed by the discovery of two more dead cranes on January 12...

Jaisalmer. The series of deaths of migratory birds (Demoiselle Crane) in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan, located on the India-Pakistan border, is not stopping. Bird flu (H5N1 Avian Influenza) is killing the cranes. The report of the Bhopal-based National High Security Animal Disease Institute (NISHAD) has confirmed bird flu in the cranes found dead in the Luneri pond of the district. After that, District Collector Pratap Singh Nathawat has formed teams of Forest Department and Animal Husbandry Department. Survey of water sources of the district is being done.

14 cranes were found dead in a field near Bakalsar School in Mohangarh, Jaisalmer on Friday morning. The farmer of the field said that the flying cranes suddenly started falling in the field and died in a short while. The villagers informed the Forest Department and Animal Husbandry Department about the incident. The teams that reached the spot disposed of the dead birds.

28 cranes have died in a week
This series of deaths of cranes in Jaisalmer has been going on for about a week. The series of deaths of cranes, which started on January 11, is continuing. 6 cranes were found dead in Jaisalmer on January 11. After that, 2-2 were found dead on January 12 and 13, 3 on January 15 and 1 on January 16. On January 17, 14 cranes were found dead together in Bankalsar village of Mohangarh. A total of 28 cranes have died in Jaisalmer so far. The local people are worried due to these continuous deaths of cranes.​
