Phuentsholing—African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak confirmed through RT-PCR testing on April 13 continues to pose threat to pig farmers in two gewogs under Lhamoizingkha in Dagana.

Although no new cases of illness or death have been reported in the past two days, the Dagana Livestock Office stated that the outbreak remains active and not yet contained.

ASF is a highly contagious viral disease affecting pigs, severely impacting farming livelihoods. Its incubation period can last up to 21 days, demanding prolonged vigilance.

According to the Dagana Livestock Office, one farm in Nichula and eight farms in Lhamoizingkha have been affected, impacting a total of nine farmers. The outbreak is suspected to have originated from wild boars, with six carcasses already found and disposed of by the surveillance teams.

The office also said that the disease could have entered through illegal crossings along the porous border, putting the risks to domestic pig populations...
