...The B.C. Centre for Disease Control said it is starting to see flu outbreaks in long-term care facilities-a warning that a flu upswing is on the horizon.
... BCCDC is anticipating that a particularly nasty strain of virus is going to hit Western Canada.
"Last year, in Ontario and Quebec, they were hit by a particular variant of the H3N2 virus, and they had three to five times the number [of outbreaks] than they typically have," said Skowronski. "In B.C. last year, we had a very mild season. It's likely our luck will run out and we may be visited by that particular variant of influenza virus."
