An orphaned baby bat found on Brisbane's southside is carrying the deadly Lyssavirus, sparking an urgent health warning.
Earlier this month, another Lyssavirus infection was confirmed in a flying fox found in suburban Cairns in far north Queensland and euthanised by a wildlife carer.
In the latest alert, Queensland Health said a bat was recovered from Lakewood Avenue Park in Parkinson, south of Brisbane, and tested positive for Lyssavirus after it died.
Metro South Public Health physician Dr Bhakti Vasant said the infection was fatal to humans and anyone who could have had contact with this bat should see their doctor and alert health officials.
