Every year during the switch from spring to summer, there is one word that can strike fear into horsemen at racetracks everywhere. That word is virus, and where it lands and for how long only Mother Nature knows.

This past week, horsemen learned their answer when it was found a reported 125 horses and climbing at Hastings Racecourse have been stricken by a flu virus. That's about one-quarter of the total horses there...

Racing Associations has announced the cancellation of the Saturday, July 20th card at Hastings Racecourse due to a flu-like virus that has affected a substantial number of horses.
