Azerbaijan monitors for avian flu - 2010

The State Veterinary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture is launching monitoring to reveal avian flu in the country.

The monitoring will involve employees of the ministries of health, ecology and natural resources as well as hunters? association. The inspections will be held in places of mass nesting of migrating birds ? Absheron peninsula, Devechi, Siyazan, Aghjabedi and Lenkoran, parks, reserves and other places.

In the framework of the monitoring, the labs will check analysis taken from birds including those from private economies. The results of the monitoring will be made public on November 27. Notably, the epizootic state of avian flu is currently stable.

Azerbaijan to hold bird flu monitoring

Taking into account the migration of birds, Azerbaijan's State Veterinary Service announced the monitoring on presence of bird flu, the Service reported on Nov. 13.

The monitoring will be held by the representatives of State Veterinary Service of the Agriculture Ministry, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and State Hunters Society.

Controling measures will be held in places, where birds of passage are present, such as Absheron peninsula, in Devechi, Salyan, Agdjabedi and Lankaran regions. The measures will be held also in the national parks, preserve fields and other corresponding territories.

It's also planned to take samples of the bird and privet industries for laboratory analyses.

The results will be announced on Nov.27

Currently the situation with bird flu is stable.

The Azerbaijan Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry held monitoring and raids connected to the early stages of bird migration this fall to prevent the spread of the bird flu, the Ecology Ministry told Trend News today.

No infected individuals or dead birds were found during the monitoring.

"Twelve illegally caught coots were found during raids at the Lenkoran Central Market," the ministry said. "A report was drawn up and the Lenkoran Veterinary Department burned the birds."

Monitoring and raids were held in the Massalli, Lenkoran, Lerik, Jebrail, Astara, Yardimli, Shirvan, Netchala, Sabirabad, Bilesuar, Salyan, and Hajigabul regions.

The situation with "Bird flu" is stable in Azerbaijan, the State Veterinary Service under the Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry said.

The Veterinary Service has conducted laboratory tests of the pathological material of 18 wild birds and 8 poultry during monitoring on the "Bird flu".

The laboratory blood tests of 1,772 poultry were also conducted.

"None of results of laboratory tests confirmed the bird flu virus of birds, which analyses were checked in the Veterinary Service's laboratories," the Ministry said.

The monitoring was held in the areas where migrant birds temporary inhabit. These areas include the Absheron Peninsula, the regions of Davachi, Salyan, Agjabadi and Lankaran, as well as the national parks and reserves in the coastal zones and other areas. Neither sick nor dead birds have been revealed in these areas.

The State Veterinary Service under the Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry taking into account that migration of birds starts from Nov.16, has announced the monitoring for the bird flu beforehand.

The monitoring was held by employees of the State Veterinary Service under the Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, as well as the Association of Hunters.

Taking into account possible passing the virus to the Azerbaijani territory by migrant birds, the State Veterinary Service intends to launch regular monitoring on the bird flu from Dec.21.

The State Veterinary Service also said that at present epizootic situation due to the bird flu is stable.

Today Azerbaijan begins next bird flu monitoring

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. The State Veterinary Service (SVS) of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Agriculture is starting the next monitoring to find out bird influenza in the country.


The Service informs that as a result of the monitoring, which started on 18 January 2010 it was established that bird flu situation is stable and virus infection was not revealed in birds.
The measures on control over availability of bird flu in migrating birds were carried out on the Absheron Peninsula, national parks of Davachi, Salyan, Agjabadi, Lankaran and coastlines and other areas.
?Birds, infected with the virus or perished over bird flu, were not found in the territories covered by the monitoring,? it was informed.
The monitoring involved employees and experts of SVS, the Ministry of Environment & Natural Resources and the Ministry of Health, as well as the Society of Hunters.
The SVS continues such monitoring.


?Taking into account migration of birds, the next monitoring will be launched on 15 February 2010,? it was reported.


The SVS bans hunting and sale of migrating and wild birds, their cooking and recommends keeping them under close conditions.

Next monitoring of the Veterinary Service under the Azerbaijan Agriculture Ministry, which began Feb.15, revealed no evidence of the bird flu infection in wild birds and poultry, the veterinary service reported today.

"As part of monitoring, specialists conducted laboratory tests of pathological material samples taken from 24 wild birds and 1,272 poultry," the service reported.

Monitoring was conducted on the Absheron peninsula, the districts of Devechi, Salyan, Agjabedi Lankaran of Azerbaijan, as well as in coastal areas.

Monitoring on the exposure of the infected birds with the "bird flu" have been held jointly by the Veterinary Services of the Azerbaijan Agriculture Ministry, the ministries of health, ecology and natural resources, as well as the society of hunters.

The Veterinary Service intends to continue monitoring in the future, taking into account the possible infection of local birds by migratory birds. The next monitoring to detect the virus will be start on March 29, during the migration period of birds.

The next monitoring of the State Veterinary Service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan, which began May 17, did not reveal any evidence of bird flu virus infection with wild birds and poultry, said the Veterinary Service,.

"As part of the monitoring, the professionals of the Service conducted laboratory tests of samples of pathological material taken from 12 wild birds and 1,160 poultry, and the pathological material of six poultry," the same source reported.

Monitoring was carried out on the Absheron Peninsula, in Shabran, Salyan, Agjabedi and Lankaran regions of Azerbaijan, as well as in other coastal zones.
Monitoring was carried out by Veterinary Service in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, as well as the Society of Hunters.

According to monitoring conducted in Azerbaijan revealed no cases of bird flu among birds.

In feather half of 2010 4 times was monitored with a view to preventing the spread of bird flu among poultry and wild birds.

According 1news.az head of the press center of the State Veterinary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan Yolchu Hanveli during these monitoring was studied 5497 blood samples and 113 samples of biological materials from domestic and wild birds.

According to laboratory research on the territory of Azerbaijan in the first half did not identify birds infected with bird flu.

No bird flu in Azerbaijan

The results of the monitoring on revealing the avian flu virus, which started in the country from November 1, have been declared.

According to sources in the State Veterinary Service under the Agricultural Ministry, no avian flu was revealed in the studied samples.

Pathological materials were taken from 18 heads of wild birds, blood samples of 1119 heads of poultry, as well as pathological materials of 8 poultry from different poultry farms and private economies were taken and studied at the Republican veterinary lab.

The monitoring held to prevent avian flu were held participation of specialists and officials of the State Veterinary Service, Ministries of Health, Ecology and Natural Resources, as well as Hunters' Association.

The veterinary service is planning to hold the next monitoring on December 13 motivating this with the migration of birds.
